What it is

From the first time I heard of the Internet, my mind has focused in the way this medium is going to change people, and society.

One day I was attending communication classes and the professor talked about Marshall McLuhan. He said that tools and media are extensions of our bodies, that the microscope and telescope were extensions of our eyes, the telephone extension of our ears... It made a lot of sense to me, but then he stated electronic media are direct extensions of our nervous system, I immediately thought about the Internet I had first heard abut it the year before, my first time online was the year after. What would it mean to a person to have his (her) nervous system connected to the whole world in such a way?...

I took this same question for my thesis research about it in 1996, and I got to know some very interesting experiences, but since then, I started living the most amazing experience myself.

Years later, I have become a worker of the web and have a full time job trying to design websites that offer their visitors a pleasant User Experience. I still want to know more about the way the web is affecting the people who have made it part of their lives. I now have come to call my old study subject The User's META Experience.

I'm just re-starting this project, I haven't collected new testimonies yet, if you have something to share, please do so.

Are You Experienced?

Has this web changed your life, has it not?
What do you think about it?

Nice if you made a form for us to use, than just a txt-file... . If you made proper form you`ll also save yourselves allot of time when you collect your information. Take a look under "Hot Discussions" at the side here ,and you`ll get to know all about making a good form. Otherwise a very interesting article and topic

not fit for form

Submitted by mantruc on August 6, 2001 - 12:39.

I appreciate your input, I tried to collect testimonies in a form some months ago, but it forced the users to give short ansers, which is not what I'm looking for. What I want to do is explore testimonies, life experiences, things about this web changing the way you relate with things and people. And in such context, forms are just too restraining. This research ins not quantitative, it's qualitative.

form your form

the shape of your form will shape your user's responses. try creating a full page form with options for shorter and longer responses. some people may wish only to respond brefily becuase of limited time or RSi, some people may wish to hold forth. I think grey matter has a nice interface for this, with its short entry and long entry options.
