For simple 3D images, try using xara 3D (an app that renders and animates text) or something similar, and use a dingbats or webdings font (or whatever stupid name they have). You can find some cool symbols in these fonts and you can output animated gifs for rollovers and stuff.

Is there a URL for this program? Let us know the details!

Oh yeah, sorry. You can download a free trial at http://www.xara.com/downloads/index.html the trail allows full export but leaves a watermark in the background.

At the risk of being a curmudgeon, this all looks pretty similar to the output of Specular Logomotion, released 2 years or so ago. It got absorbed into the Kai family some time back, plus it was Mac only, but I *loved* it. All the 3d chrome at the top of this page? All done in LogoMotion.

My turn to be a curmudgeon. If you've got Photoshop, you've got most of what you need to do cool chrome effects. It ain't true 3D, but some times it works well, like here.

Chrome's nothing new, no, but photoshop never spun stuff around in 3D for me. You gotta use your imagination curmdgeons! get the pointers webdings font from Abstract Fonts
and make some arrows that spin when you mouse-over, I had fun anyway :)

I seem to remember using Xara3d around the same time that the complete Specular web package came out -- I loved it so much that I bought an old Mac _just_ to load it on. Although I still like full 3d products like 3DSMax, I used to play with it a lot.

I agree. Xara is very simple, quick, and slick. Output it, tweak it in Photoshop...render the animated GIF's into Flash for tracing 3d animated vectors that are fast and light. The only thing I'm missing is an easy to learn font creator for my own custom wingdings, have to find one I like, any tips??
