Go Guides from Go.com are a new alternative to the DMOZ.org directory. It works quite similiar as the known system from the Netscape directory. The Go Guides are volunteers who try to catalogue the net.

Beta tested since July - results online since September.

For someone who wants to become a known expert this is a good chance to polish one renommee.

Wolfgang .wolf Bromberger has been around online since 1996. He started to get into web design after he and some other students developed a concept for the online presence of their home town, Salzburg in Austria, a site Bill Gates used years later as a good example of e-government (as still not nearly all points of the concept have been made reality, .wolf disagrees).
Being interested in search engines and information systems, .wolf specialized in search engine optimization, online promotion and analysis.
.wolf was one of the founding fathers of evolt.org
He is working for Kreiseder.com and can also be reached there.
He is always interested in learning new programming or other web related skills, when time permits.

There is a significant difference between this and DMOZ, which is that the DMOZ data is freely available for download, whereas the Go data isn't. The DMOZ data is used on sites like Netscape, Lycos, Hotbot, and numerous others, so becoming a DMOZ guide reaches a much larger audience.

For sure there is a difference, but I when one thinks back, it is hard to predict how a project will evolve. I share your opinion you reach a broader audience with DMOZ, but though it also is harder to get the area where you want to show your expertise.
