Policy established by .au name space founder, Robert Elz, has existed since 1995, prohibiting generic domain name registration in the .com.au space. Early in 2002, this will be removed, and the generic names auctioned.

A recent email from Melbourne IT Ltd has alerted Australian domain holders of this revised policy which has come from auDA recommendations. Their Name Policy Advisory Panel has recommended that these previously disallowed names should be auctioned.

The auction will be handled by online auction company stuff.com.au who have information online for anyone interested.
